Wolters Kluwer Health, one of the largest publishers in the healthcare industry worldwide, asked us to develop a strategy for the digitization of some of its print products. Before deciding on the scope of the strategy, we facilitated an Activate!Workshop to determine the overall strategy and scope of digitization.
In preparation for the Activate!Workshop, we met with Wolters Kluwer Health executives and key staff for some initial fact finding. In addition, our team conducted research about the market, competitors and overall trends in the industry.
The Activate!Workshop was conducted with approximately 20 members of the Wolters Kluwer Health upper and middle management teams. All findings from the initial information-gathering phase were outlined on posters. During day 1 of the workshop, the participants agreed on the following:
- The overall problems and challenges in order of priority, including current weaknesses
- The market trends that most likely will impact their business
- An overall high-level approach regarding the digitization of their print products
- A high-level work plan and scope for the strategy project
Based on the Activate!Workshop, Wolters Kluwer Health decided on a detailed strategy for its new digital product development, which was then executed over the following 1.5 years. At the end of this process, Wolters Kluwer Health launched five new digital products into the pharmaceutical market. Additionally, we were tasked to project manage the development of the new products, as well as the development of some of the required software tools. All of the products delivered the expected revenue within the first year post-launch.
